When I started my business eight years ago, I knew that I would need to hire a team of wonderful people around me to help fulfill the Mission of the business. Who do I hire? How do I find them? Will they perform in ways that I need them to? What if they don’t? How do I communicate so I am effective? How do I grow my business? These were some of the questions and challenges I faced. Today I have a team of 14 part time employees in Calgary, Airdrie and Didsbury, along with a full time admin. With enrollment in the Mission, having workable systems in place and recruiting the right people, we are doing amazing things in the lives of our senior friends and their families. I am happy to share my story with you.
1) What to have in place before you advertise the position
2) Qualifying applicants and the selection process
3) Setting up the new hire for success and beyond
Robyn Pearson is the founder of A Friend Indeed. A friendly and reliable resource for families with elderly loved ones. Providing in-house, non-medical support through one on one visits at their place of residence as well as on outings into their community, "Together We Laugh" is the company's guiding Mission Statement. From the beginning, she knew the vision for her company would be dependent on building a strong team. Creating a culture and environment that are strong yet flexible, finding and hiring the right people and providing the best practices for training and support was crucial helping her team members succeed and feel their contribution to something larger than themselves. She is happy to share her experiences with you.
