Raleigh Pinskey Offers 101 Ways

by Constance Menefee

Raleigh Pinskey, goddess of self promotion is her own best exhibit for her "101 Ways to Promote Yourself" book recently published.

Raleigh was in Cincinnati last week and got herself booked everywhere: radio, TV, bookstores.

Isn't that the dream of many small business owners? To have people wanting you, clamoring for you?

The book is the sum of her 20-plus years with clients as varied rock stars and pet store.

Some of her tips:
Forget what your mother said about talking to strangers. Most of the world is strangers.

Talk to them; they could become clients. Your business card is a one minute marketing brochure; it has two sides, use them. Put your face and your message on it.

Don't be afraid of repetition; it takes eight hits for a message to sink in. Repeat the message. Now say it again. Selling yourself is selling your business.

Find opportunities to get yourself in front of people: Make yourself visible.

Give seminars or lectures, give informational talks at bookstores or community centers.

Get interviewed on radio: What do you know better than anyone else does?

Remember, as you put yourself out there, exposure is not advertising. You pay for ads. Writing columns, doing radio, giving seminars is about content first, visibility second.

Think about the story behind you and your business. Then tell it everywhere.
