More about Marilyn Carlson Nelson

In addition to being the chairman of Carlson, a global group of integrated companies providing travel, hotel, restaurant and marketing services, she serves on the boards of Exxon-Mobil, The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Mayo Clinic Foundation, the Committee to Encourage Corporate Philanthropy, the World Economic Forum’s International Business Council and is Chair of the U.S. Travel and Tourism Advisory Board.  She is also a member of the World Travel and Tourism Council; the Business Roundtable.

During her term as CEO of Carlson, Marilyn served a presidential appointment as chair of the National Women’s Business Council, a bi-partisan advisory council to the U.S. President and Congress;  and co-chaired the Forum’s annual meeting in Davos.
 
Marilyn has been honored with induction into the French Legion of Honor, an order created by Napoleon Bonaparte which recognizes exemplary leadership and service to humanity.  She is also a member of the Royal Order of the North Star First Class, presented by the King and Queen of Sweden; and the Order of the White Rose, Officer First Class, presented by the President of Finland.
 
Born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Marilyn lives in a western suburb of Minneapolis with her husband of 47 years, Dr. Glen Nelson. They have three living children. Their daughter Juliet died in an automobile accident while in college.

She enjoys downhill skiing, horseback riding and is an enthusiastic inline skater.
