Fall—a time for new beginnings

continued from front page—

as the children begin to refocus their summer activities and now incorporate the challenges brought on by rising early and including homework into their day's routine.

Another element brought on by Fall is the realization that the holidays are soon around the corner. Suddenly, I begin to accelerate my efforts to achieve those final goals that I want to accomplish before the end of the year.

Within the last several years, Fall has also brought us the lifelong imprints from the tragedy of a terrorist attack to the recent wrath of Mother Nature. Yes, Fall is now a bittersweet season, a reminder of what we have lost but also of what we still have.

With Hurricane Katrina's devastation in constant play on television and in the paper, we have come together as a community to do what we do best—reach out with compassion and assistance. With the work of rescue almost complete, we must now begin the work of recovery and rebuilding. It will take our collective and continued deeds of generosity and support for some time to come. Make no mistake about it, the needs are still great.

To that end, I believe it is a time for us to reflect and think about how we might redirect some of the dollars that we spend on things that, should we give up, would go relatively unnoticed. For example, maybe it's just one of those large caffe lattes that satisfy an early morning craving. Perhaps it's just stretching a little more time between manicures. Or, perhaps it's simply forgoing an extra treat or two that you may casually toss in your grocery basket. These small adjustments would, in fact, make a big difference in helping to rebuild the lives that have been so undeservingly devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

The eWomenNetwork Foundation has recently announced its Hurricane Katrina "Long-term Impact Plan". This large-scale strategy across North America includes adopting families (preferably single-mom, women business owners) who have lost everything and have been forced to relocate around the nation and Canada. Here's how our collective efforts can make a BIG difference: This eMagazine is distributed to a database of over 500,000 women business owners and corporate executives (not to mention the thousands who may receive this as it is forwarded). Imagine for a moment, if each of us donated at least $10. By doing so, we would raise a minimum of $5 million. That's five million dollars! And, our plan calls for 100% of the money donated to go directly to assisting those families we adopt. That's right, all the administration efforts of this plan are being donated as well, so that every penny goes to help those in need!

Additionally, you will see first-hand how your contributions are actually being used to create a better life for our adopted families displaced by Hurricane Katrina! We will keep you updated via our web site, our future eMagazines, our radio show, and perhaps even our 2006 Conference on the successes our adopted families are experiencing. To think that we would take a painful experience and collectively come together and provide such positive results that could impact so many families as they rebuild their lives is incredible! I want to personally invite you to join me on this journey.
