Chatter, The Tao of Julia

A new play by Corny Koehl
Chatter,The Tao of Julia

When you ask yourself a question, who answers back? When you act on gut instinct, from where does that wisdom emanate? When self-doubt creeps into your life, whose voice do you hear?

We all have voices in our head. Most of us have a committee of voices, each of which will drown out the next for the simple pleasure of being heard. One voice whispers that you should, another maintains you shouldn’t, while yet another insists that you can’t.

In the span of a single night, and from the mind of a single woman, Chatter represents the familiar symphony of voices in our heads, and Julia embodies the human search for clarity and meaning the midst of all that chatter.

What People Are Saying About CHATTER

"Where some people's minds are dangerous neighborhoods where no one would want to go, Corny Koehl's interior life is full of wry humor, devastating honesty, liberating insights, and an overall conviviality that invites us all to come in, sit down, and be simultaneously enlightened and entertained. Anyone who's ever spent an anxious night will find hilarity and hope in Koehl's 'CHATTER.'"

— Martha Beck, life coach, columnist for O the Oprah Magazine, and author of six books, including "Steering by Starlight"

“Corny Koehl's 'CHATTER' takes a subject that is hard to talk about without sounding preachy or woo-woo or just plain boring, and spins it into a riveting, funny, and surprisingly moving ping pong match of a play. We get to listen in to the chatter of familiar inner voices—the ones that give conflicting directions and drive us all slightly crazy. With a sure hand, Corny Koehl helps us name, and tame, those voices.”

— Elizabeth Lesser, author of “Broken Open,” and cofounder of Omega Institute

“This play is pure wonder! It's a rare glimpse into the different layers of mind and consciousness (in the most entertaining of ways!). The dialogue is simple and carefully rendered so that the mysterious realm of the unconscious is laid bare. Deep stuff along with many laughs!”

— Kathy Freston, author of “Quantum Wellness: A Practical and Spiritual Guide to Health and Happiness”

“What the heck is this strange concoction? Satire? Wisdom? Torture? Therapy? Fun? Answer: All of the above, plus one more thing: theatrical genius. If Jung were a contemporary playwright, this is the play he might have written. 'CHATTER' is a mirror to any American who came of age in the late 20 th century, unless he or she happened to have been marooned in Antarctica.”

— Larry Dossey, MD, author of multiple books on prayer and spirituality, including "Healing Words" and "The Science of Premonitions"

"Living with awareness is both a blessing and a curse; depending on whether we can make a chorus of the voices we hear or whether we are battered by them. What we hear and what we do with what we hear is at the heart of what Carl Jung called individuation. 'Chatter; The Tao of Julia' is a compelling portrayal of the work of awareness we all must face. I’m sure you will recognize some part of yourself in this telling glimpse into an ordinary person’s search for soul."

Mark Nepo, author of "The Book of Awakening"

"Perhaps the most compelling and profound message of 'CHATTER' is that no matter how alone we feel, we never really are, nor can we ever be—a message that is right for our times. Corny Koehl has created a brilliant tapestry that weaves together the voices within each of us that we wrestle with, cry out for and strain to hear as we slog along the the path of life. This priceless work sheds a new and entertaining light on the greatest question that humankind has ever asked: who am I? With a liberal dose of biting humor and sarcastic yet accurate jabs at everything from the metaphysical to the mundane 'CHATTER' gives us permission to put aside our fear of inner space and to go within so we never have to go without."

— John St. Augustine, author of "Every Moment Matters, Savoring the Stuff of Life"
